Qualified Zone Academy Bonds
Certain schools and communities have an extraordinary finance tool at their disposal: Qualified Zone Academy Bonds, which allow for zero-interest or low-interest borrowing.
To be eligible for these bonds, a school must be located in an empowerment zone or an enterprise community. It also may be eligible if at least 35 percent or more of students are eligible for a free or reduced-cost lunch under the National School Lunch Act. Students in a Qualified Zone Academy must meet the same academic standards and assessments as other students educated by the local school system.
